What mental qualities initiate the development of the Noble 8-fold
Way?
The Blessed Buddha once
said:
Bhikkhus, even as dawn is
the forerunner & messenger of the rising sun, similarly is Fulfillment
the forerunner &
messenger of the emergence of this Noble 8-fold Way. Fulfillment
of what?
Fulfillment of
Morality...
Fulfillment of
Motivation...
Fulfillment of
Determination...
Fulfillment of View...
Fulfillment of
Alertness...
Fulfillment of Rational
Attention...
When a Bhikkhu is
accomplished in these qualities including rational attention, one can expect
that he will initiate & refine this Noble
8-fold Way! How does a Bhikkhu, who is accomplished
in these mental qualities develop and cultivate this Noble 8-fold Way? In this he
develops:
Right View so
the final goal is the removal of Greed, Hate and Ignorance.
Right Motivation so
the final goal is the removal of Greed, Hate and Ignorance.
Right Speech so
the final goal is the removal of Greed, Hate and Ignorance.
Right Action so
the final goal is the removal of Greed, Hate and Ignorance.
Right Livelihood so
the final goal is the removal of Greed, Hate and Ignorance.
Right Effort so
the final goal is the removal of Greed, Hate and Ignorance.
Right Awareness so
the final goal is the removal of Greed, Hate and Ignorance.
Right Concentration so
the final goal is the removal of Greed, Hate and Ignorance.
It is in this way,
friends, that a Bhikkhu who is fulfilled, consummated and accomplished in
morality, motivation, determination, view, alertness and rational attention develops,
cultivates,
and completes this Noble
Eightfold Path…
