The second son of King Esukārī's
chaplain. He was born in the world of men at Sakka's request.
His father had him brought up among the
keepers of horses (assapālā) so that he might not wish to renounce the world.
His brothers were Hatthipāla, Gopāla and
Ajapāla. He followed Hatthipāla into the ascetic life and lived on the banks of
the Ganges (J.iv.476ff).
He was Sāriputta in the present age
(J.iv.491).
