Kappakandara (v.l. Kappukandara)
A village, river, and monastery, all of
the same name. The village was the birthplace of Bharana, one of Dutthagāmanī's
generals (Mhv.Xxiii.64). On the river was a ford called Javamāla, crossed by
Dutthagāmanī while fleeing from his brother Tissa (Mhv.Xxiv.22). According to
this context, the river must have been in Rohana, and Geiger (Mhv.Trs.165, n.5)
thinks that it is probably identical with the modern Kumbukkan-Oya. The
Mahāvamsa Tika (p.593) says that Malayamahādeva came to Kappakandara Piyangudīpa
to receive alms from Dutthagāmanī.
According to the Rasavāhinī (Ras.ii.160)
the village was near Cittalapabbata Vihāra.
