1. Taraniya Thera. An arahant. In a
previous birth he took the Buddha and his monks across a river which was in
flood. Thirteen kappas ago he became king five times under the name of Sabhogavā
(Ap.i.204f).
He is probably identical with Sambhūta

2. Taraniya Thera. An arahant.
Ninety-one kappas ago he took the Buddha Vipassī and his monks across a river in
a boat. Ap.i.234.
3. Taraniya Thera. An arahant.
Ninety-one kappas ago he built a bridge on an impassable road. Fifty-five kappas
ago he was a king, Samogadha by name. Ap.i.238.
4. Taraniya Thera. An arahant. In a
previous birth he was a tortoise in the river Vinatā, and, seeing that the
Buddha Atthadassī wished to cross the river, he took him on his back.
